It's hard to both understand and express the depth of what each other are feeling

All I know is I relate with what you are saying. I recently tried meditating and just trying to clear all thoughts while doing so

It helped me a lot, my problems persist, but I can bare my mind and just feel content

It doesn't matter the population size. If you get a sample of let's say 385 people, from a population over 10k. Then it doesn't matter if your society has 1T people. That 385 randomly sampled people will have the same representation. It's what scientists use to sample people, so it's scalable.

I couldn't agree more. The question to me then becomes are we going to wait for the people responsible for our system to change? Where they have every motivation to keep things the way it is.

Or are we going to finally organize on mass coherently and make it happen ourselves?

I think it's not the people who are leaders that are the problem, but the role of a leader itself.

Ireland uses citizen assemblies to take part in massive changes to the law.

There are more such as France, Belgium, U.K, Poland, Canada, U.S, South Korean, Mongolia, Australia, New Zealand and probably more.

Each used citizen assemblies to various degrees of issues, but more are trying.

There are many possible routes, at that point it becomes about preference & execution.

My mind goes to a decentralized, non-profit organization. A DAO comes to mind, where this organization is meant to educate and verify experts. All decisions and finances would have to be transparent for trust.

What if multiple experts were also picked randomly from a preselected pool?

This way nobody individually will have the power to select. While the pool of experts can be publicly verified.

I 100% agree we need to have sustainability in mind. The question becomes is there too many people consuming resources or is it the way we are consuming?

I personally believe companies are extremely wasteful and overly destructive for the name of profit. If we fix that, then our population is fine

What do you find to be some of the biggest challenges to running a citizen assembly?
November 16, 2024 at 6:09 PM
There are so many more humans then we have ever seen. Our traditional systems weren't designed for this many people.

What makes me sad is so many people rather reduce the population, rather than adapt the system to this new reality.

I couldn't agree more! If representation is at the core of our principles in a democracy, sortition is the sound choice.
