because you get better rewards for it. weapon mastery at low level isn't a big deal at all. you should be careful about it when you're level 50. but coming from someone, who swapped one of the weapons at lvl 50, it's not that bad because you have all of the resources to do so.

farming monsters itself doesn't give you weapon mastery unless you use an item called mastery report, which you can get from the bp shop. you get mastery by consuming tear drop looking items, which you can easily get from doing contracts. however, only start doing contracts at lvl 50, +

be careful about switching though because of weapon mastery. wand/longbow is the best healing build in the game and it's really good. i'm not sure about sword/wand. i'm running staff/longbow personally and it's one of the best dps builds actually. search up tier lists for weapon combos!
