Hadrian’s Wall, built AD122 during the Roman occupation of Britain. The wall is to the right, the cliffs to the left are the Whin Sill, formed by magma intruding along sedimentary beds approx 300 million years ago. The Romans used this natural cliff as a foundation for the Roman wall. Awesome!

The magma chamber of the Ardnamurchan volcano in west Scotland, erupted 60 million years ago. Now exposed by erosion, when active it was 4 km below ground. This is part of crustal rifting and formation of the North Atlantic Ocean. It is awesome to be able to walk inside the ancient chamber now!

Isle of Mull, West Scotland, with lots of individual basalt lava flows, erupted around 58 million years ago. Due to crustal rifting and opening up of the North Atlantic Ocean.
