ARISS teams have been working on plans for the Service Module packet radio, that's the one that runs APRS / SSTV from the station.

They are sharing that the crew will be running some procedures on the radio in the next few weeks. Details in the graphic.

If you missed out on the chance to get the SSTV Series 30 images via the ISS, there's an event coming up to fulfill that need.

Satellite RS-38S will begin transmitting these images "within the next 5-7 days". Not all details are finalized, but what we know is below!

Update on tomorrow's planned outage.

The ARISS VHF/UHF radios will be off for the docking of the Soyuz MS-28 spacecraft on Thursday.

Crossband voice repeater now planned to return to service Thursday!

ARISS has announced updated ISS radio outages for 27 Nov 2025. The Columbus module cross-band voice repeater will be turned off Thursday ~10:00 UTC (5:00 AM ET) and restored ~20:15 UTC (3:15 PM ET) — 40 minutes earlier than originally planned. The Service Module APRS packet and SSTV systems will remain off during the same window while troubleshooting continues. HamTV is not expected to be affected. All times are approximate and subject to other station activities.

Ryan has broad experience in the amateur radio community including VE, EmComm, and MARS work.

The ARISS ops teams have shared an update on the status of the radio equipment in the Service Module (Russian Segment) of the ISS.

The Columbus module based radios (Cross-band voice repeater and HamTV) continue to function nominally.

The original Kenwood D710GA radio has been replaced with the onboard spare D710E (shown in the photo). This radio will support Russian school contacts and serve as backup communications. After 3 days of troubleshooting the ARISS ops team has determined SSTV Series 30 can not continue.

Please follow ARISS social for updates on repair and future SSTV events.
Message reads: SSTV Series 30: Scrubbed The ARISS radio in the Service Module used for SSTV is being taken out of service. ARISS SSTV Series 30 started Wednesday 12-Nov. and sent images for about 2 hours before an issue occurred with the radio. Therefore, SSTV Series 30 has ended. Certificates will be available for those capturing the early images if they are uploaded to ariss-usa.org/ARISS_SSTV/ by 23:59 UTC (6:59 PM ET) on Tue. 18-Nov. Teams will determine when the next event will occur after additional troubleshooting takes place. The SSTV radio will currently only transmit for 4 seconds at a time. A backup radio, not configured for SSTV, will be put in place to serve several Russian STEM contacts this week.

25 years ago this week the ISS Expedition 1 crew activated their first educational payload. Amateur Radio on the International Space Station went on the air with two test contacts!

Here's an update from ARISS regarding SSTV Series 30.
The message reads: Here's update from the ARISS team regarding this event as of Saturday 15-Nov at 19:00 UTC Thank you to the ham radio community for your ongoing patience as SSTV has been offline since starting on Wednesday. Troubleshooting efforts are underway, with the solar storms adding complexity. U.S. teams are awaiting official guidance from the ARISS Russia operations team regarding next steps. Those who successfully received images early in the event and submitted them to the gallery have received their certificates. We will provide updates as soon as new, official information becomes available.

HamTV outage upcoming Wednesday.

HamTV transmissions will take a pause on Wednesday to enable other human research payload operations.

When operating, HamTV is transmitting a signal but no media is being sent. We'll share when future uses are planned.
