Enchanted by/in NM 🇺🇸. She/her
It’s late December and the hairy vetch is making this pot on our Abq patio look fabulous. It was also great in the hanging pots in full shade on our north porch at 7300’ this summer. It’s cheap & easy, has beautiful flowers, and even survives snow.

Container #CoverCrops for the win.

I’ve been dreaming of getting a row in the Rio Grande Community Farm garden. I wasn’t the only visitor this morning.
I love sandhill cranes but, if our chickens are any indication, cranes might be kinda tough on a veggie plot. 😁

Isn’t it divine?
Someone loved them enough to plant 17 bushes at our current house. I will miss them when we move.

Yesterday, @arielgreenwood.bsky.social shared grazing management strategies for improving grassland & riparian condition in Northern New Mexico.

Today is the last day of the Regenerate Conference in Santa Fe, NM. I think this is my 18th Quivira Coalition (quiviracolaition.org) conference.

REGENERATE 2025: Cultivating Adaptability centers stories about transformative potential of regenerative agriculture in partnership with nature.

I’ve been concerned about the carpet of #kochia coming up (shown here with actual carpet for scale).

Can anyone confirm that it’s edible & can be dredged & steamed?
I’m averse but curious.

Happy #EarthDay!

These cages, constructed from metal fencing, are perfect size for wall o’water or adjustable coffee sack (shade/frost). They will be tomato cages in summer.

Genius design by previous 🏠 owners.

Broccoli 🥦 was safely tucked away during recent snow.

I pulled up an Energy Release Component (ERC) chart for North Central NM (SW07) for a 🔥 workshop.

ERC = measure of the available energy per unit area within the flaming front at the head of a fire = how hot a fire could burn.

Setting new max ERC records in Jan & Feb does not bode well...

Our recent paper traces the bacteria 🦠 in wildland fire 🔥 smoke back to ground sources for the 1st time.

We found that 70% of smoke-borne bacteria originated from the aspen (33%) & soil (37%) communities at the burn location.

When I planted cold season seeds about a month ago at >7000’ in NM, I thought it was too late but worth a try.
Now we have thriving kale, spinach, & parsnips with no freeze in the forecast.
Wacky weather sure requires creativity & flexibility.
