I cover regional transportation at the Sacramento Bee, and I would love to receive an email about dangerous roads near you: [email protected]

for whatever reason, the victims of traffic violence never factor into the calculation. no urgency there. but do something that might affect a suburban lawyer who had a few drinks and then it becomes an “equity” issue

I will note that the Washington Post, at the very end of a detailed 3,000-word story about how fatal car crashes are preventable, still calls the crash that killed Cecilia Milbourne an "accident."

"The real problem isn't that Vision Zero doesn't work; it's that many places have adopted that slogan without making any real changes. ... It has not been implemented with the resources and commitment and courage from legislators that is required." Whew!

What a deeply upsetting way for the city of Sacramento to get a mention in the Washington Post :/

Oof. I have not written about it and don't believe anyone else has at the Bee. Like you (and Moody!), I am more interested in cars because they pose far more danger to others. But the European e-bike speed limits I'm reading about here...seem more reasonable than ours.

When Alena Wong saw the intersection changes for the first time, she was on her way to an orthodontist appointment to deal with the continuing fallout from injuries sustained in the crash *six years ago.* Fatal and severe injury crashes have lasting effects. The more crashes we prevent, the better.
