The New York Times reported in 2024 that Thiel (who bankrolled Vice President Vance's 2022 U.S. Senate campaign), along with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and venture capitalist Marc Andreesen, worked with Hernández when he was president of Honduras' congress to launch a "start-up city" called Próspera.
