I am shuffling through the Texas sand but my head's in ... none of your business.
It's absolutely an achievement. I would say Japan, South Korea and Taiwan have pretty much followed the same path but being smaller they didn't have the same dizzying effect on people.
Although there was, in the 80s, a veritable Japan hysteria in the US.

Examples: inability to reduce Diesel subsidies to German farmers. The "farmers party" in NL. And just imagine what Poland looks like if you rein in the subsidies.

All good points. But as one can see in several countries, e.g., the Netherlands itself, any even small reform of agricultural subsidies is met with fanatic political resistance. And the eternally aggrieved electorates of our time are happy to amplify this resistance.

Meanwhile, @propublica.org is doing the work to investigate the outbreak that our Department of Agriculture is now ignoring.

China having 4x Germany's GDP is in some ways just a reversion to the mean. In the 1820s, on the eve of industrialization, India and China had about 40% of world GDP. That's because that was their share of the world population. It's the 19th & 20th century that is the remarkable outlier.

This guy is a great libertarian, always bemoaning the evil government and its pesky regulations. Until, of course, the terminally online SV set sinks its own bank by hysterically riling each other up over 0.1% higher interest rates elsewhere. Then he's seen whining about the slow govt response.

Oh and here I was thinking that lowering steel and aluminum tariffs was already agreed upon in one of Donnie's big deals. I think I am losing track of all the dealing.

You mean it makes no sense for the borrower. But it does for the lender. And just by offering it many desperate people will get lured and suckered into it and will be fleeced for a whole lifetime.
So you see, it all depends on your notion of "sense".

Well Enron and Worldcom made the mistake of not first buying the government. Big Tech isn't going to be held to account so easily.

Funny how the US now has to be pushed to honor "deals". I remember when our word was worth something and agreements were ratified into laws. I know I am getting old and sentimental, but still.

It seems to correlate with election season more than with the economy, at least lately
