I tend to think there’s a kernel of truth to the idea but also: no one’s clamoring to go work in a metal refinery, mining.

So I’m with you that knowledge work can result in valuable outputs, but I would say it’s not as satisfying.

I think there’s a lot of people experiencing anomie who fantasize about ‘working with their hands’ bcuz they naively think they’ll be satisfied by it, regardless of output.
