I just hope that DVDs and Blu-rays are produced for new films.

4K Blu-rays used to be supported on PCs exclusively for Windows systems with Intel CPUs. But since its DRM implementation depended on an obscure feature of Intel CPUs that is now deprecated (SGX), new computers can no longer legitimately play them.

Two of the three ninth-generation game consoles support 4K Blu-rays on some of their variants (PS5 and Xbox Series X). Even the last gen Xbox One S and X support it. But people still report problems actually trying to play 4K discs.

The cheaper and more popular of the two, the UB-820, costs $500. But this is justified because 4K Blu-rays are marketed towards enthusiasts.

But it's nuts to me that the "standard" is nearly a decade old now and so few devices properly support it.
