Man’s Best Friend - Sabrina Carpenter

Throughly average pop album that switches her sound to country and synthpop. I think I like it better than her one from last year though! Plus it has house tour on it. 3/5.

Because the Internet - Childish Gambino

I’m a little disappointed because I heard this was good and thought this would be more than just The Worst Guys, Sweatpants, and 3005. It’s just a normal album that has these good songs on it and not much else to talk about.

The Passionate Ones - Nourished by Time

Songwriting wrote like he journaled things during spells of anxiety and needed to be honest about who he loves and how he’s being loved. Awesome production on top of an interesting older style r&b voice. 4/5.

Baby - Dijon

Very interesting album that weaves and flows between different sounds. Soul, psych, even some heavier electronics. I don’t some of what was on here was for me but it’s a pretty interesting project.

New Bermuda - Deafheaven

It’s a good black metal album but there’s nothing on here that sounds like the band except for their screeches and hopeful sounds. The atmosphere they’re known for just wasn’t here for some reason.

Soundtracks for the Blind - Swans

5 stars.

It petered out a little towards the end (and might be more like a 4.5) but experiencing this kind of music doesn’t come around often so go listen to all 2 hours and 21 of minutes of it when you can.

The Loneliest Time - Carly Rae Jepsen

Average at best, but Carly’s songs all feel like she’s coming off of being single for a while and committing to a new relationship and hoping for the best.

Smile - Brian Wilson

Full of whimsy and yet it feels like Brian is looking back on his good old days. It makes you wonder what this could’ve been like if The Beach Boys recorded it back in the 60’s, but it’s still cool to listen to it come to fruition like this.

Elliott Smith (self titled)

Captures the kind of angst you’d see growing up in a lonely rural town with better things to do. Discovering yourself sucks sometimes, and so does being alone as you do it. This sounds like it vents its frustrations with a journal, a guitar, and a “studio”.

Headlights - Alex G

A folk album that has a lot of lessons to give you. Love blinds you like headlights, don’t forget those who have helped you become the you of today, and some decisions you’ve made will always be regrettable. It’s up to you to find your way through life.

California Nebula - 缺省 (Default)

It’s a little spacey and feels a little far out so as a shoegaze album it does the job. The interesting catch with this is that it’s from China! It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s something new from somewhere I haven’t heard music from.

Attempted Martyr - Prostitute

If you want an album where it’s hard to the angry singer say words because of how loud the instruments are then this is the one for you. Arabic influenced noise rock is as good as it sounds.

Ilutsinniit Apuussilluta - Nanook

A neat little album from Greenland that reminded me of sigur ros sometimes. I don’t have much else to say about it other than that you should check it out if you want to listen to greenlandic indie rock in their language.

Era Vulgaris - Queens of the Stone Age

QOTSA makes an average alt rock album. All style, no substance. They at least had some hit songs on here, but I too would run out of ideas if I spent the past decade making every record of their that released before this.

Superunknown - Soundgarden

If it sounds like something you’d blast in your car while going over the speed limit then it’s a good album. Chris’ vocals and the band’s rhythm sometimes brings in these dark or bluesy moments to a loud grunge record. There’s also some hidden gems here. 4/5!

R Plus Seven - Oneohtrix Point Never

The opening track greets me like an angel offering me ascension. I’m like, ok that’s kinda neat. It tells me im not gonna get all of it so I listened to this album. It had a lot of styles on it, and some religious overtones (to me anyway).

Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts - M83

The soundtrack to a computer raining sentience and downloading memories of winter with friends it never had. Yes it got sad over it. No it doesn’t want to ruin humanity for it. 4/5

Magic, Alive! - McKinley Dixon

Going back to your home in the middle of a hot summer and taking some time to tell the stories that happened there all while letting some jazz play. Great hooks, good vibes, and shockingly just over half an hour. 4/5

Close to the Edge - Yes

I preferred the cool groovy parts where it was epic instrumentals and not the vocals. The band really shines when they let the music play, though I say that like there was a Bad song on here. 3/5

Cowards - Squid

Decent enough post-punk and art rock with some good orchestral moments sprinkled in. Not for me, but I also wasn’t in the right mindset to listen to this so do NOT take my word for this. 2.5/5

The BPM - Sudan Archives

Dude you can’t be sitting down here get your ass to the dance floor. Bouncy club music from start to finish. My one critique is that sometimes it sounds a little same-y but that’s not a knock on the production cause this one’s a heater. 4/5!

Fragile - Yes

All time opener to start and a lot of classic prog rock to end. The bass is always grooving, the synths can vary from epic to funky and there’s even an instrumental piece that’s basically a classical musical piece. Very interesting album overall.
