Engineer, author, father, husband, Minnesotan, Brewers fan; not necessarily in that order. Player of games. Slayer of fish. 🍺 Opinions.equals("mine");
In my experience, they spend time helping devs do things like design schema & access patterns, estimate necessary resources, deploy new instances, & troubleshoot query bottlenecks. It’s mostly a cross of SRE, devops, & data modeling.

And some of us do end up contributing to open source DB projects.

One play doesn’t detract from the fact that our bullpen can’t hold a lead anymore.

Yeah, the Giants haven’t had a power hitting shortstop in as long as I can remember, and that’s going back to Jose Uribe. Although, Matt Williams did play some short occasionally.

Hearing that there’s an uptick in open roles for DB engineers, mostly with big tech. As database skills have lost favor within the dev community over the last several years, there are likely to be more jobs than people qualified for them.

When was the last time you purchased a firearm in Minnesota? In my experience it’s been anything but easy. In fact, I’d almost rather go to the DMV.

Careful there. They say “truth is like poetry, and most people f*ck!ng hate poetry.”

People talk sh!t about Ryan Braun (and they may have a point), but his emergence really did signal the end of Milwaukee’s attitude of mediocrity. It hasn’t resulted in a WS yet, but I’m glad that we’re winning more often than not.

And the (likely) problematic code produced by "vibe coders" will keep actual developers employed for years to come.

Last time there, my son bought me a beer and a Twisted Tea for himself; $31 before tip. This is after I paid $300 for the 4 of us to attend.

Going to a Twins' game is not something that's feasible to do multiple times per summer. And people won't do it if the product on the field is sub-par.

No, that’s cool. Let everyone keep underestimating us.

Collins has played infield (mostly 2b) in the minors, so I wonder if they’ll try him at 3rd to keep him in the lineup. 🤷‍♂️

From X: “She leaves behind a legacy of chalk lines and carjackings.”

Signing your girls up for hockey, and carting them (and all of their gear) to practices and games with the cargo bike in winter would seriously be top-tier content.

The current “system” (or lack there of) only really works for the big market teams. Sure, the Brewers are competitive every year, but they never go far in the playoffs. How is Milwaukee supposed to sign someone like Ohtani, when LA can offer more than our owner’s net worth?

I was there in Minneapolis when he hit 2 home runs in 2024. I’ve been a fan of his ever since!

Made it back by removing the charging limit, charged to 100%, and barely made it back to the Hyundai dealership in Mankato to charge. Other than that, my Ioniq 5 has been awesome.

Took a 6-hour drive from the Twin Cities to Sioux City, IA. All of the charging stations along the way (except in Mankato, MN) were owned by Shell. And they were ALL down for a “software update.” Ended up having an impromptu night at a hotel to charge on an outdoor outlet.

100% this.

What about other government fees? In Texas it costs $75 to register your car for a year with the DMV. What is it in California?

I think he’s hilarious. His Netflix show “Tires” is pretty funny, too.

Relevant.

Which is what they should have been doing in the first place.
