...yeah, that's gonna be the tricky part. There's going to be warpages due to rendering, so the best thing to do for me is to perform adjustments, view the updated livery thru the DCS Modelviewer in the /bins folder, and then just rinse and repeat.

Start from here and download the F/A-18C Block 20 template. From there, you can edit the template and export it into a .dds file using the graphic editor (PhotoShop, GIMP...) of your choice.

I know there are some indie projects that are trying to make a air combat survey sim, but we'll see whether or not they're going to be successful.

Have you tried of Tiny Combat Arena? I haven't tried it, but I've heard it's good.
