My notes for the session, I don't use slides for this one but a combination of Markdown in Neovim and jshell: github.com/antonmry/jav...

Yeah, that’s exactly the kind of thing I have zero interest in. The title says Event Streaming, the image says "The death of Kafka" and the whole piece is basically about Confluent.
Nothing wrong with that, I know it has its audience but I’m definitely not part of it

I'm in the same boat. The FDAP stack couldn't be more interesting. It's a bit sad there isn't an equivalent yet in the streaming space. Arroyo is promising but seems unmaintained since the acquisition and Iggy is too young.

There's more content than ever related to Kafka, but the overall quality has decreased, for sure. Too much marketing, half-truths or even wrong takes.

Yes... but it shouldn't be abused. In particular, if the storage is expensive like Kafka or memory

Check the README in GH: "Magika is used at scale to help improve Google users' safety by routing Gmail, Drive, and Safe Browsing files to the proper security and content policy scanners, processing hundreds billions samples on a weekly basis."

Very good points. I was also thinking about Linux and Hadoop when I wrote the tweet. The lack of a BDFL is clearly a weakness in big open-source projects like this

That energy seems gone. What I see now is people spending more time debating extremely odd takes and non consequential drama instead of advancing the technology or sharing deep knowledge.
It is sad to watch that shift happen.

Rust is the thing now. I am again roughly four years behind you. Happy you joined Rerun! It is one of my top interesting companies. The founders and team looked excellent when I spoke with them before summer 🚀
