You can learn everything film school will teach you from these 3 books. The rest is practice makes perfect. Listen to your actors. Give them space, let them find their path to the performance. As a writer you place obstacles, as a director you only help actors around those obstacles when needed.

Probably the most important thing you can do to become a successful director is learn to work with actors. You can do this by directing shorts, and plays. Shooting stuff on video and edit it, you’ll learn coverage. It doesn’t have to be a film or short, just scene work. Learn from doing & mistakes.
