I wonder if his base would actually care, I've seen folks on the right unironically say he is probably in them "because he had to play ball" in order "to get abortion banned".

I have some sort of issue where acting that way bothers me. I still do it more than I would like. I despise that my upbringing in the Southeast has led to me saying Sir and Ma'am (it's very annoying there isn't a neuter version of those) and opening doors for people.

I hate the aesthetics of kind.

I won't be changing but you still have a point

I was actually looking for a sign to see if I should vote for him on the way to the booth in '16, ended up going 3rd party. Was still mad at Obama for not closing gitmo in his 2nd term (main thing I voted about). Glad I never voted for Trump's bullshit though, even tho it was a narrow thing.

It's a personal shame I considered voting for Trump's first term up until the moment I got in the booth. I liked that he seemed to be a shake up of the system and how much Republicans hated him, but in the end I couldn't stomach the birthright citizenship stuff, and I decided to believe him on it.

I dunno if this is related, but I voted for Kamala despite hating that I was voting for a cop, and I still feel kinda bad about it. It's the only time I've voted for anyone not third party since Obama.

I still think voting against Trump this time around was the right call, but I feel a little bad.

A near death experience convinced me that in my case, opting out of my remaining years successfully would result in a horrible fate.

So putting one foot in front of the other is the least shitty option, and sometimes I work towards escaping Samsara.

Thank you for such an in-depth reply. I'm going to sit with this for a bit, but I really appreciate that you took the time to articulate your stance this deeply.

Why is happiness important in your estimation? I'm currently re-evaluating my values, and I'd be curious to hear a perspective on this.

Yeah like, this kinda feels like giving up on solving social problems to triage the patient dying of fascism. Which, sure, that's probably a valid reaction, but why are people selling this as anything but a strategic retreat to the river?

I'm already too fat and too poor and you want me to buy more food and eat it?

They definitely didn't either, I mostly bring up Western Europe because you could justify that invasion as "turnabout is fair play" so it's the only somewhat reasonable alternative to everyone moving to Antarctica.
November 16, 2025 at 10:12 PM
Well logistically if everyone whose ancestors were not in these lands prior to the Columbian exchange left, where would we go? The only remotely ethical options I can think of are Western Europe (Europe would never consent, it would have to be a military invasion) or Antarctica.
November 16, 2025 at 7:48 PM
Admittedly I do think that in an insane pipe dream sort of way an exodus to colonize Antarctica or some sort of military invasion of Western Europe might work pretty well to solve some of our problems.

Are CIA operator types and not rank and file military (probably because rank and file military would result in more questions re:war crimes) and thus they don't have access to the lower level systems the proper military does. I could be wrong about that however.

We don't really have any cheaper ordinance for cheaper targets. Back during gulf war 2 I recall us switching to guided bombs full of cement for awhile specifically because of issues like this. I'm not an expert in the current situation but I'm under the impression those hitting the button this time

It's also a pretty big component of some more radical factions of both Islam and Christianity. The idea that anything outside of focusing on God is a sin/iconoclasm/shirk. If thinking of/focusing on anything but God/the divine is sinful, than it follows that ignorance of anything not holy is virtue.
