Those are cool they resemble cababa lilies from Alabama with the big tendrils underneath the blooms. Those only grow in the little river canyon

He’s right about New York though. New York unions are a special case and they’ve done a lot of damage to the city over the past 40 years. We can support organized labor but we don’t have to be knee jerk yes men in response to things that have made life worse for New Yorkers

It’s fucking stupid to call 9/11 the result of American foreign policy because we were pretty cool with the Muslim world before it happened outside of Iran, and Iran and bin Laden didn’t get along. We backed Pakistan, non-atheist North Yemen, and Sunnis across the region.

Yes, questions of scale. Until the GWOT we weren’t that involved. Desert storm was a one time thing and we dipped, us being entrenched in the Middle East is the direct result of bin Laden. You can read history on Al Qaeda it’s well documented that personal weird grievances drove it at first

We played both sides of the war, we didn’t have a favored party really though we did find saddam some public praise. We should’ve stayed out that’s clear

That’s Indonesia, and he didn’t have much of a problem with it because our allies were religious conservatives. And yes it was awful

It makes sense, the Soviet Union borders MENA and Central Asia, but we weren’t players there like we were in say Brazil. We did the coup in the 50’s in Iran and like I said mostly just moved weapons. The USSR had a full puppet state in South Yemen.

Because I’m very well acquainted with our policy in the Middle East and was hands off compared to the rest of the world. The Soviet Union was directly involved in a way we never were. We didn’t reinvade Iran after they toppled the shah the way they did Afghanistan.

I’d be very surprised if we supported India against kashmir but I’d have to check again, we supported Pakistan in every conflict against India from Nixon-Trump 1

Like why he attacks us and not Russia is incredibly bizarre and personal, Russia supported wars against Muslims in Bosnia and Chechnya before 9/11. We invaded Iraq to protect a Wahhabi ally

I mean the reality is really complicated and weird. A guy who had no problems working along side us in Afghanistan turned and decided we were his real enemy when he wasn’t appointed the hero he thought he would be. It’s a weird complex story that isn’t driven by what you would expect

Great man theory matters when one man makes a decision, historians don’t actually split between great man or trends theory anymore because that kind of dogmatism leads you to ignore critical factors. People use power sometimes, he had an initial continent of like 100 people it didn’t take much

Most of the hijacker’s were those who came to bin Laden to participate in other conflicts like the Afghan/northern alliance war, or the war in Bosnia.

He was perfectly fine with American involvement when it suited him, he had no problems with Americans until the first gulf war and he never said he was actually mad about Saddam, he himself offered to fight him.
