When we pin all our hopes (and investments) on AI, we're putting our thumbs on the scales, and with this many thumbs all in, there's no way the scales don't come crashing down.

When we take a clear-eyed look at AI and see it as one of many tools that can be used in well-defined situations, we can actually start to use it in beneficial ways.

Also, tools that you pay for are expected to pay their sources (*cough cough*).

Don't get me wrong, genAI _is_ very useful, but it's the most useful when you clearly and deliberately understand its limitations and use it appropriately.

Will it take your job? Probably not. Will it help you in your work? Potentially, if you give it well-defined tasks with lots of context.

CEOs bought into the false hope that AI will replace their expensive, complaining workers.

Workers bought into the false hope that AI will do all of the boring parts of their work and free up time to be creative or focus on the parts they enjoy.

None of those things are currently true.

Really needed this the last few months, thank you! Hope you’re doing the same

I don’t know any senior engineers psyched about it, most of us grudgingly use it and find it useful for well-defined tasks and useless at actually thinking through problems. PMs, on the other hand, are pretty psyched about it

Ha, our previous album was all over the place so this was a first. It was actually inspired by the last song, Tidal, which we originally recorded for a compilation raising money for victims of the tsunami in Japan (which tells you how old these songs are)
