The Polish communist government declared martial law in 1981, in response to mass societal discontent and protest. It sent out tanks into the streets to intimidate the population.

This, of course, is very different.

Yes, the AfD did better than ever. So did the FPÖ in Austria and Le Pen's RN last year.

But in all three countries, other elites immediately coordinated to keep the far-right out of government. (Yes, it's PR, and yes, they may yet fail (Austria?))

But at least they tried.

Meanwhile, at Stanford? Small peaceful encampment that violates both time (during Admit Weekend) and manner (overnight) regulations. The response? Names have been taken down, and the university will deal with it internally. Protestors "may face" sanctions. No cops, no violence. Fingers crossed.
