Yeah, I was just comparing laptop prices with a friend, and a $1500 high-end MacBook Air is extremely comparable with $2200 Windows laptops for creative work. It's kinda blowing my mind that Apple seems like the sensible option right now.
And yeah, I'm sticking with my Google Pixel :P

I was learning that there are people who know a lot about the world, and even if I wasn't remembering the answers to specific clues, I was being opened up to broader concepts about history, geography, science, literature, language, even pop culture. It drove my curiosity about the world!

I wasn't being bombarded with sound design that is specifically designed to override critical thinking by over-stimulating the brain. I hadn't been put on the dopamine elevator yet, and I could be content in a quiet room.

And it's getting to the point where these kids' brains are so atrophied that they don't even know what questions to ask! They're going to get to the point that they can't even prompt AI to get answers. I've already seen people asking for AI to be able to write prompts for them!

My friends are pulling their hair out because their students keep asking, "Why do I need to know this if I can just ask ChatGPT?" and the kids just can't wrap their heads around the concept that critical thinking expands every aspect of their ability to function.

Oh, it absolutely is, especially in the education system. Kids going through public schools are being graduated from elementary to middle and high schools, even though they are functionally illiterate, so they rely on AI to do the work, which further erodes their skills.

And whether you come off as desperate has less to do with reaching out, and more to do with what you say/how you say it. You can give them a very high-level reason for why you think you'd be good for a role (like, 1-2 sentences), and follow that with asking if you can ask them any questions.
