ICYMI: Looks as if Interior Department is thinking about firing a bunch of people on Monday, according to a legal filing last night.

This would violate a judge’s temporary restraining order on the shutdown firings.

Energy Department finally giving out a list of the offices getting hit with layoffs. The cuts span every office that does work on efficiency, affordability, and clean power.

No breakdown of how many people in each office. Also hearing that no one has actually been fired yet.

Energy Sec Chris Wright had lunch with NM @heinrich.senate.gov minutes before the cuts were announced and didn’t tell him it was happening — even though they were cutting 10 projects from his state.

Shutdown strategy from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, led by Secretary Scott Turner

This is the first thing that comes up on their website right now

Slipped into a 10:40pm email last night:

USDA is “repurposing” $285 million to start a farmer assistance program 1 year earlier than Congress authorized.

They don’t say where they are taking the money from — aka the program Congress actually wanted the $280 million to fund

Current state of affairs on the CDC's website for data on pregnancy risks. This data is used to try to reduce infant mortality.

Texas AG Ken Paxton appears to believe that DEI and ESG somehow contributed to the devastating Texas wildfires last year. He is investing the utility companies to try to find evidence of this.

Police have set up a checkpoint and appear to be stopping every single car on 14th st NW, between W+V, here in northwest DC. Some cars are being pulled over after being stopped.

Some police are wearing “HSI police” vests (Homeland Security Investigations)

I went to a Heritage Foundation event earlier this year to meet the climate skeptics excited about Trump. Two of the authors of DOE’s new report — dismissing the dangers of climate change — were featured at that event and in a new Heritage book.

With EPA killing the endangerment finding today, DOE’s companion report challenging the consensus on climate change has flown under the radar

I immediately recognized two of the five authors from a Heritage Foundation event I attended in the spring

the american chestnut could be coming back!!

comments closed yesterday for USDA's approval of a genetically modified chestnut, designed to withstand the blight that killed the trees in the early 1900s

the chestnut has been gone so long that we just have images like these

This NYT story doesn’t have the whole picture on FEMA’s response

Yes, FEMA only got 2 new search + rescue units active in TX as of yesterday. But 2 other teams, also part of FEMA’s elite search and rescue squads, are based in TX and were activated immediately, alongside the US Coast Guard.

Joni Ernst is currently standing on the Senate floor playing an oversized fake monopoly game and holding a giant white die. So that's Congress in 2025.

SCOTUS restored permits for an Utah oil railroad today. A small victory for permitting reform — with bigger future implications

Brett Kavanaugh eviscerated what NEPA has become in his opinion. I bet this becomes critical for defending infrastructure projects in court now

Buried in the lawsuit from 18 states suing Trump over offshore wind today is this bit of news:

New York can't start construction on its long-planned, much-anticipated, Staten Island terminal because the Trump admin won't give them the permits they need.

Statement here from Rep. @chelliepingree.bsky.social, given in response to my reporting that DOE is forcing the University of Maine to stop work on a big offshore wind project.

National Weather Service is expanding cuts to weather balloon launches all across the country now. This is a blanket statement saying that offices are just too short-staffed.

Experts have told me that the more launches get cut, the higher the chance forecasting just gets worse

So yesterday, the Trump administration cancelled the government contract for climate change research — the national climate assessment.

Two days ago, the Daily Wire ran an article blasting the program and calling contractors "liberal climate consultants."

Wow turns out that 68 bridges in the US have an unknown risk of collapse if they get hit by a ship, and that includes the GW Bridge, Brooklyn Bridge, and Golden Gate Bridge

NTSB figured this out during their investigation into the Francis Scott Key bridge collapse in Baltimore

I broke 4 stories this week for @notusreports.bsky.social on how the Trump admin is causing tumult and chaos in food safety, nuclear waste, volcano observatories, etc.

My Signal is annakramer.54 if you want to share for more reporting like this. I will keep you anonymous.
