This Gophersnake (Pituophis catenifer) put on a fierce display when I found her mid-road in Dundy County, Nebraska—hissing, flattening her head, and vibrating her tail. All bluff, no venom.

After a photo, I moved her off the road. Bullsnakes control rodents and deserve respect, not fear. 🐍

Happy #WorldWetlandsDay! 🌿💧

Wetlands = herp heaven! 🐢🐍🐸
They shelter turtles, snakes, and amphibians while keeping water clean & floods low.

No wetlands? No herps. Protect them. #Herpetology

Despite what some folks claim, Nebraska does have venomous Copperheads—but only in the far southeast corner of the state. They’re ambush predators, relying on camouflage rather than aggression, so most bites happen when someone steps on or grabs them by accident, though bites are extremely rare. 🐍

History doesn’t start with gas chambers—it starts with dehumanization, division, and the normalization of violence. Words shape reality, and some people know exactly what they’re doing when they choose them.

The world feels like it’s moving faster than ever—AI breakthroughs, climate rollbacks, political chaos. Maybe the real challenge isn’t keeping up but figuring out what’s worth holding on to. #Perspective #MiddayThoughts #Nature #Centruroidesvittatus #scorpion #stripedbarkscorpion #photography

These two mating Gophersnakes (Pituophis catenifer) were some of the first snakes I encountered when beginning my endeavors into herping. My kids and I were exploring a freshly burned prairie when my daughter yelled, “Snake!” And it was not one, but two snakes. 😍 #herpetology #Nebraska

My first wild Speckled Kingsnake, in Nebraska no less. A beautiful animal fresh out of brumation early this past spring. We observed several species of snakes emerging from crayfish burrows. #herps #herpetology #Lampropeltisholbrooki 🐍
