Yeah I wrote something for ROAR feminist magazine when it was active on the change between applying to come for my masters in 2013 and then my doctorate in 2017, and I just can barely process it as it continues. It genuinely feels like no one cares and we are endlessly expendable and exploitable

It's definitely both. I've been here since 2017, I can't say I've had a single moment of feeling like my status here was "safe" and that's on the "easy" route (prestige degree, now married to a UK citizen)

But now folks are acting like this all came out of nowhere or, even worse, is some consequence of the shitshow that is the US at the moment.

Pathetic, really. Just own up to the fact that you simply did not give a shit about immigrants until now. Don’t pretend otherwise.

I moved here in 2015 - a full ass decade ago! - and immigrants were on social media begging folks to give a shit about the gradual increase of restrictions on immigration, the continuation of policies that split up families, the high fees that keep getting larger.

And no one cared!

And if you can’t believe the NHS would publish something categorically stating that “it would be a waste of public health resources & capacity” to attempt to halt the spread of a new pandemic virus…
