Ah, this is a case of decadal confusion! Peter only referred to 1970s after the first papers came out in the first half of the decades, and only to the scientific literature. Then the 80s he describes as dynamic - it’s when the scientific field slowly forms.

Yes, such a wonderful follow-up to that episode on the science. Important to note though that in that »discovery« episode, Peter was only referring to the literature published in scientific journals. Not impact in a wider way like the cleanups.

As the sun rises over Mont Blanc, disappointment in the #PlasticsTreaty plenary hall: The negotiations have failed again. But after last-minute late-night drafts that were definitely not going to help solve #plasticpollution, no treaty is better than a weak treaty. Time to head home.

On the (hopefully) last day of the #PlasticsTreaty negotiations, I get to check out the diplomatic swag at the United Nations bookstore. Geneva #INC5.2, the world is in your hands. But don’t confuse it with a stress ball! And could we include an article phasing down plastic versions of Earth?
