Farmed animals are protected by several laws across the UK.

These include The Animal Welfare Act 2006, which mandates that animals are spared any unnecessary suffering, and imposes a duty on those responsible for the animals to ensure their welfare.

After Wakker Dier’s success in challenging the Dutch Government for lack of enforcement of EU Transport Regulation 1/2005, where the Court ruled that the law should be enforced, UK animal groups decided to make similar arguments, as the same law applied here.

Yesterday we met with the Department of Business and Trade's trade negotiating team to highlight key UK animal welfare laws that go beyond EU standards – vital context as they negotiate animal trade agreements.
