Am I wrong or is she insinuating that taking hormones is a political act? And not taking them is an act towards safety? Because, trans people take hormones to ensure their safety, not the other way around.
1. If you're someone who thinks that distinguishing yourself from other trans people who don't want to be on hormones by calling yourself a transsexual is politically important (and not because it's funny or cool or whatever because I also like funny and cool stuff)

DS9's promenade in particular felt like a branch library got turned into a strip mall with Cheesecake Factory and Factory Pomo influences; a small, homey, carpeted space decorated with brushed brass and gears and decorative geometric shapes with an industrial flare.
