Yes, I totally agree that in getting old, you will lose a lot of people you love. However, we in the gay community who survived the AIDS epedemic lost most of those we loved in our 20's and 30's. That trauma is what stops us from wanting to trust new friendships. I have only 1 friend left to lose.

I agree. When a president shuts down all in-patient mental facilities in the 80's, where did he think the mentally ill would end up?? We need to be ashamed of our stupid presidents!!

Thank you. I made sort of a collage of my friends, and I find myself staring at it almost every day. I didn't come out until I was 30 (1990)---and was a virgin until then, & moved to SFL. I built up a whole new family & we spent every holiday together. Most died within a five year period.

I have lost loved ones due to AIDS. The grief can be overwhelming. Sadly, the depression comes, in part, from the villification and the ostracization of the victims of this disease. Though it may be years, even decades later, this does not disappear. I see your pain.
