Scholes is a pretty big advocate (obviously) for DT Seattle. I doubt he's a proponent of MHA or DRB. He's alway touting how many people have moved here in the last year, etc. He gets that we need a lot more housing for downtown to succeed.

The state should go one step past banning DRB and ban any design guidelines outright. It's so subjective that it's impossible to make "objective" design standards.

I've heard talk of a "bike superhighway" and always thought it would make sense to run it down Fremont Ave, down Westlake and terminate at Olive and 5th. Politically impossible for now, but someday it could happen.

Seattle would have been MUCH more expensive had we not had out centers. They're not perfect, but at least here we've seen a ton of development in them over the last 15 years.

Seattle desperately needs IZ/MHA reform. Would love to see @wilsonkatieb.bsky.social tackle this soon.

The rents are a lot lower but construction doesn't change. It'll make sense eventually but we're far off from that.

We need additional landmarking reform. They shouldn't have any say in health and safety. PSPB played a similar role in halting/slowing down the bike lane in Pioneer Square. Landmark boards aren't qualified to comment/legislate this area.

Is this lot wider than it is deep? Seattle has a ton of 5k SF lots (50x100) that I wonder if they would work with a development like this.

This doc has a pretty deep dive on all the options studied. The one that went the furthest is here

I always thought a diverter would make sense at MLK and Rainier. I think SDOT even studied it at some point before shelving the idea.

How does this incentive get applied? Could a developer turn that tiny 3-bed into a 2 or 1 bed?

Do these does reset every 2 years or does the mayor appoint them? How would Saka lose his title here?

Bills can change in future sessions. Continue to advocate!!

What are the SEPA implication for furthering the comp plan? My understanding is that makes it tricky to add much at this point.

This would also be a great way to begin to unravel the authority of the Pioneer Square Preservation Board (and similar groups throughout the city).

They should take over the old Bartell's on 2nd. Maybe enough space (~13k SF) for a condensed version.

Do we even have the option of voting in person in king county?
November 5, 2025 at 6:21 PM
Don’t say that. Pretty soon we’ll start hearing about “character of the neighborhood” and nothing will get built.
November 5, 2025 at 4:28 AM
Belltown should get one too.

Can’t wait to never hear the phrase again

Would this apply only to surface parking lots or underground and parking garage as well?
