Retired to Shropshire from London to spend more time with my bees
His stepfather was an English artist. Not sure that's a complete answer though.

I didn't think I'd find a better podcast than Untold: the Story of Danial Morgan, also by @peterjukes.bsky.social . But I was wrong - this is terrifying and beautifully told.

I certainly can see what you mean. One of my favourites of yours is the Tristram beer, Tristram lemonade Venn diagram. To get visual and verbal gags into one drawing is very clever, and very funny.

A french friend of mine, now in her 70s, who has lived in the UK for about 50 years, says that although her french is still fully native, people in France look at her as though she's some sort of 19th century relic, as the language has moved on in her absence.

I’ve had nearly 20 colonoscopies and one gastroscopy, and the mental scars from the one easily outweigh the combined total of the 20, so much respect to you!

Ah, but they will look lovely when they've been restored!

I could do with a clever-clogs point, so I'll say Pompeii. Although my granddaughter sighs in exasperation at my emoji use, so I might be way off.

I think the link is broken (although it can be copied and pasted). Maybe the generous but lazy ones amongst us would find just a click more to their liking?

The first proper autumn mist made the lines of distant trees appear gradually darker like a stage set.

Thanks! It reminds me that Jared Diamond covered this is some depth in one of his books. It seemed to depend partly on the shape of continents among other things. I must dig it out again. (Why we don’t ride zebras, not children’s questions, obvs)

They've got the dreadful timeline that is now completely emboldened over on X, but is occasionally seen here sadly.

Wonderful - thanks. But could we keep to metres and ditch the feet?

A member of my local beekeepers association has started making all sorts of bee products, but I can't find her website or email address at present. They don't look much different from the ones you've seen here, so I'd go with them.

I've found them good if you want to cover a bowl, say, but they (the ones I have at least) are rubbish at wrapping your sandwiches. They are heat-dependant and will crack if too cold, or melt slightly if too warm. I don't think of them as cling-film replacements, but good at the job they can do.

I'm fortunate - I've no thyme to lose.

Good lord this is fun!

We alway watched the football results' teleprinter back in the day, and I could never work out why there was one Polish team in the league, until I realised that Walsall and Warsaw are different places

I have a strong astigmatism in one eye, so my brain essentially cuts out all but peripheral vision. I have had opticians force its correction to some extent, but it completely changes the shape of the world (odd, but there's a strong tapering of the world upwards).

Thanks for this - as a 2D viewer all my life, I can imagine the wonder of the world become 3D before my very eyes, so to speak. Also, Oliver Sacks is always spot on in my experience, so a blessing from him and you makes this a must-read.

Now the Telegraph is accepting that the tory's long years of incompetence is a fact, perhaps they could look at austerity, Brexit, Johnson's PPE shame, the flight right, etc.

I just love that the east, middle and south saxons, that thrived whilst Mr Fawcett drew his map, could be casually cast aside, but the west ones, who'd been gone for over a thousand years, were brought back without any need to explain he wasn't following Hardy, but were still solid folk memory.

That was very much a ‘I can hint at, but not mention, their skin colour’ call which @lewisgoodall.com brilliantly left for us to fill in the blanks. @mrjamesob.bsky.social might have chosen the brilliantly combative approach.
