Megadeth, Rust in Peace came up on my 1001 album generator. I listened to it whilst replying to emails and it made me really focused. This has surprised me.

This is one of the best podcast interviews I've ever been a part of. Andy's done an amazing job. If you're interested in what my PhD is about, or thinking about new models for audience engagement, this is probably the single best place to start...

I had a blast putting my conversation with @solobasssteve.bsky.social together. Among other things, we explore the problem with Rick Rubin's notion that "the audience comes last", and the impact of collective uninterrogated nostalgia on modern music making the-haven.co/audience-com...
Sustaining Your Creative Practice (with Steve Lawson)
Should the audience, as Rick Rubin suggests, "come last"? Or is there a more nuanced and sustaining question to explore instead?

Saw #TheLostBus on a screen that was way too big for the movie. There is no let-up to the Paul Greengrass shaky cam, which adds to the urgent intensity. But on the x plus screen at
@showcasecinemasuk.bsky.social (the only option), a lot of it was an unwatchable messy blur.

Whoa, what a day. I have so much respect for the Euro players and everything they’ve put up with this weekend. Unbelievable resilience under pressure. It’s bad enough being watched teeing off by the group behind. I can’t imagine! US nearly pulled it off. Well done all (except some US fans) #rydercup

Love the Ryder Cup but finding this one a particular challenge to watch/listen to. It would be nice to have coverage that removes audience noise.

I might have just wondered into the oldest pub in the world, quite by chance.

Still beaming from my chat with @solobasssteve.bsky.social yesterday. We discussed using relational spaces around music/art to keep making/growing in meaningful/sustainable ways. I was recording it (with his consent). And I will share it on the podcast very soon (with his permission).

My running shorts split beyond repair this morning. I was a bit irritated but then realised I’ve been wearing them (not constantly) for 13 years. They’ve done pretty well really.

While the article does mention issues concerning the piggy backing on the movement started by a poem, it is also very dismissive of very important questions that are yet to be answered. Mel Robbins has done well to ignore and silence the truth (aka “her critics”) youtu.be/qQ_xip3l1io?...

Severance didn’t disappoint in the slightest. Unbelievably good. It exists in the same realm as Twin Peaks and The Prisoner for me. Doing something daring, interesting, and mysterious. No pandering 🐼

I think I’ve got my head around a cover version of Lilac Wine. It’s such a beautiful song. Nina Simone’s version has really brought it to life for me. Thanks to the 1001 Albums Generator!

I've been on quite a ride this week with the 1001 Album Generator. Motörhead, Bruce Springsteen, Doves, k.d. Lang, Kate Bush, The Prodigy, and The Kinks.

I came up with a cryptic clue while journaling this morning.

Beefy gripped by a long drink (one word, 5 letters).

Oh, David Lynch. I’m so very grateful for all you’ve left behind. And I’m gutted there will be no more. 😢

Something I appreciate about the 1001 Album Generator is its lottery nature - a breath of fresh air in a world of algorithmic "if you like that, then you might like this". Randomness breeds depth, discovery, and creative connection.

Have been doing the 1001 Albums Generator this week. Really enjoying giving old unknowns and old favourites a spin. Shame that (as far as I can tell), the archive only runs to 2005 when the book was published. I need another list. What would be on 1001 must hear albums 2005-2025 for you?

Our book club is back. Doing one book a month this year. Starting with The Humans by @matthaig.bsky.social

Have you read it?
Have you read The Humans by Matt Haig? We are discussing it in our next Haven book club. I imagine it will give rise to some interesting conversation!

Do the people who compile the credits for the end of a film get a credit? I always look out for them but then drift off. It seems like an enormous job and I’d like to acknowledge them.

It's really great to see so much activity over here now, and particularly from other artists.

Here's a few more of my pop culture posters 🖤
