Oh that's excellent. Thank you. I get regular emails from ebird, about my records - I don't think I've logged on in years (2019 it appears.) I shall have an explore.

Yes, it's on the shelf right next to me. I'd just like some searchable data - by site preferably. iRecord is pretty good for that, but none of the other sites really do it. (iNaturalist does a bit, I can't remember how Bird Track works.) I'll have a look in the report.

Yes it's a nice, if small, site - I haven't explored it fully yet. Where does one look for past bird records? Birders don't seem to use iRecord.

I didn't go in the end. The cold made me think tomorrow might be a better option - I'm a fair weather spider hunter, I'm afraid (and I think the spiders prefer that.)

Quite possibly - google thinks so. The middle fen is dense reed bed - has lots of Grasshopper Warblers apparently. But the only bird record for the fen on iRecord is a domestic chicken in May! I'm afraid to say, in the 18 years I've lived here, I hadn't visited it until a few months ago.

Thanks. I did do a little bit sieving and vacuuming around a seat area up by the main car park bit as you enter the middle fen. Nothing spectacular - they've all appeared on here as photos recently. I was specifically told not to enter the reed bed, which is a shame but understandable.

That's what I thought - thanks. I'll look there tomorrow, rain permitting. Should have gone today really - it isn't that cold now, but left it a bit late as usual and need to do other things.

Where were the piles you sieved? I couldn't see any on the middle fen - the lower fen certainly has one pile, but I couldn't find a way in to the higher fen. I'm kind of looking for Hygrolycosa, but whether it's still there I don't know.
November 26, 2025 at 1:50 PM
Thanks. Yes I guess so. Since the BAS field weekend, I now carry a bigger tray with a bigger sieve! There are things I know I only find in the winter or early spring.
November 26, 2025 at 1:30 PM
It looks to be dry and warmer tomorrow - maybe I'll go then. Although it forecasts rain overnight so will be wet. I often tell people spiders are a good group because they can be done all year round, but I wonder how many people do.
November 26, 2025 at 12:54 PM
Yep - will keep me going for a few nights.
November 24, 2025 at 4:47 PM
I still have these recorded from last christmas! And the last four episodes of the box of delights. Oh, and the Wessex tales and some M.R.James things. I'll watch some of it later - will be up late cooking puddings.
November 24, 2025 at 4:43 PM
Most of the decorations belonged to my late sister. She didn't really like Christmas. Anyway, I can't close the door now, which is a bother, so I might have to take the secateurs to it.

Cheery not cherry! They’re in the pudding.
November 24, 2025 at 4:33 PM
UK based I'm afraid. I think I've found what I'm looking for.
November 24, 2025 at 2:59 PM
Yes!! That's what I was looking for. Thanks.

Thanks - I'm sure that's right. There's an online thing that you can navigate a map to the position, but it doesn't say who owns it. If there are documents, you have to pay. Fortunately, for Norfolk, someone's done the work, so I think I have something to go on. www.whoownsnorfolk.org
