The point here is this describes an arrangement whereby historical artefacts are seen in purely commercial terms, in a way archaeologists excavating the same ground would never see them.

It's part of the increasing evidence, for many, metal detecting is not about the history but the cash.

During the investigation Lord Dannatt told the Lords Standards Commissioner,

"I regret that my misunderstanding of the Code of Conduct and the publication by the Guardian of highly unwelcome articles has damaged my reputation but more significantly risked that of the House of Lords."
