Commercial archaeologist in North East England. Fan of prehistoric garbage with a soft spot for an industrial brick. Also enjoys death metal, ice hockey and curating tat and taxidermy 💀
I love the Petrie Museum. The musty smell of "old", the wooden cabinets with the drawers and the fact that some of the items still have their original tags written by Petrie. You are very lucky to have been able to furtle around in there 😍

Usually we work with pretty clear (and solid) natural geology, boulder clay or chalk for example, where it's very clear where archaeological horizons end. But when you get into the glacial sands and gravels and its very difficult to determine where the earliest horizon may lie. That's when I panic 😂

I have worked in commercial/rescue archaeology for over 10 years now and have never had to, or been briefed on how to, deal with deposits older than the mesolithic. It is a poorly explored area and frightening to think how much has been lost.

One of my favourite mosaics from Leeds City Museum. Like this wolf, sometimes you just have to grin and bear it 🐺 #mosaicmonday
