"Writing for Publication": Presentation in 2024 to Linguistic Society of Japan. Focus on academic publication in linguistics, but the general principles applies more broadly. Would love to hear additional perspectives, other advice you may give junior (or senior) scholars, etc.

Just gave a talk to home department titled: "Language, Place and Identity in Post-Colonial Societies: Three Case Studies from Afrikaans." I feel like I have come full-circle in the last third of my career. My research has taken me back to my birth country and to the complexities of S Afr society.

Lize Jansen van Rensburg Coetzee (on the right). April 17, 1968 to February 2, 2002. This was circa January 2002. I have loved deeply twice in my life — the first time was Lize, ended by cancer. The second is Gary and that still continues. Life is complicated. People are complex. Love is love.
