The second authorized copy was auctioned off in 2024 to the tune of over $5 million to a cryptocurrency entrepreneur, who ate the banana publicly, comparing its relative worth to that of crypto.

The third official copy was donated to the Guggenheim museum.

A signed certificate of authenticity and detailed hanging instructions were also provided by the artist.

Someone bought the first one, out of a limited edition of three copies, for $120K. Incredulousness and controversy spread quickly both through the art world and mass media.

The Carpenters: Space Encounters (dir by Bob Henry) (1978)

The song did fairly well worldwide, prompting the band to create this curious TV special. The success of Star Wars (and CE3K) is definitely reflected here.

Oh, and there’s a disco sequence, because the ‘70s were magic, people. *Magic.*
