Yep - at the time we were nonplussed by the NP verdict (there was also a Yellow-browed Warbler present at the same time which confused matters) so would need to go back through the archives - or just let it go and let Jonny our AW have his moment in the sun 😇

Hume's (Leaf) Warbler has a somewhat chequered history at Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory. One trapped on 11th of 11th 1980 & one seen & heard well by several observers (inc. moi) on 2nd Nov 2008 were deemed not proven by the powers that be (gawd bless 'em) so today's was all the sweeter #KentBirding

Long-awaited 'first' for the Bay (see later), Jonny Bull's BOC shot is spot on & soon we're watching/listening to this grey washed-out 'Yellow-brow' calling like a Pied Wag, hyperactive feeding up & with a chameleon-like quality of picking up green hues from vegetation. A 'proper' photo by Greg Lee.

On the debit side, I very quickly lost breeding Spotted Flycatcher (2-3 pairs) and Turtle Dove (1-2 pairs) in my garden/gardens nearby since 2001/2 😢

Yep - I sympathise Nige. Mine even settled a couple of times but just couldn't see it before it saw me and was off. Also a bit flummoxed by the amber-tinted wings until reading the literature ".......broad hind-wings variably suffused with yellow".

And it doesn't look like any other species in the western palearctic, so not some cryptic species stuff here but an amazing new find! Here's a pic by Süleyman Erdeğer, the person who first found it (and after whom it is named) www.trakel.org/kelebekler/?...

Reading Waring & Townsend, wasn't aware White-speck is an American species which has colonised the Western Palearctic. I then fell down a rabbit hole looking for other 'leps' that have done likewise.....
