A heartfelt thank you to everyone across Welwyn Hatfield who attended and participated in Remembrance services today.

The support from the public has been exceptional.

From veterans and cadets through to brownies and cubs acting as flag bearers.

We will remember them.

Am pleased Farage is making more speeches.
Every time he does, something new slips out of the bag.

Today - he is considering a cut in the minimum wage for younger workers.

I'm proud our Labour Government increased the minimum wage. You should be paid fairly for the job you do, irrespective of age.

Proud to convene leaders from the UK Ukrainian community at @aqaeducation.bsky.social to discuss the campaign for a Ukrainian GCSE.

We need the right qualification, but it's also about preserving and celebrating Ukrainian identity.
Thanks to @joepowell.bsky.social and other MPs for your support

For more than 70 years, the ECHR has protected the fundamental rights of millions of people.

I fully support our membership. Leaving would put the UK on a par with Belarus and Russia.

Farage's 'Bill' today was pure symbolism, but we have to keep making the argument for why the ECHR matters.

If we abolish stamp duty, the biggest winners will be those with the biggest houses.

If your house is worth £2million, you save £150,000. If it's £300,000 - you save nothing.

The Conservatives dedicated most of their Opposition Day to this cause in the Commons today.

Irrespective of whether she was freelancing, or speaking for the Conservative Party - Katie Lam is plain wrong.

It's unconscionable to threaten to deport hundreds of thousands of people who have Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK.

This is not who we are as a country.
October 22, 2025 at 3:55 PM
David Gauke was a Secretary of State as recently as 2019.

His eloquence and clarity in making the case against leaving the ECHR reminds us just how far the Conservative Party has fallen.

The attack on a Synagogue in Manchester is an act of pure evil. Compounded by the fact today is Yom Kippur, one of the holiest days in the Jewish calendar.

I know people across Welwyn Hatfield will share my horror and want to offer their support to friends and neighbours in the Jewish community.

Great to be in the hall for the Chancellor's speech in Liverpool.

Her central message was that this is a Labour government committed to extending opportunities for all young people.

Through the youth guarantee at home and an ambitious youth mobility deal with the European Union.

Retrospectively changing the rights of people to stay in the UK isn't fair, isn't right and is certainly not the British way.
To Farage they are,"low skilled migrants."
To the majority of Brits, they are our friends and neighbours, working as teachers, carers and in small businesses.

93% of our Labour Cabinet attended state schools.
It is the highest proportion in decades and (while I am happy to stand corrected), I suspect it is the highest ever.

There is much work still to do to break down class barriers and expand opportunity for all, but our government is leading by example

We will not be cowed by Elon Musk.

A man who can't win an argument with his own AI tool (yes, Grok is off for 'reprogramming' again this week) is not going to win an argument about the future of British politics.

"The Covid vaccines have been a factor in the cancer of members of the Royal family".

From the guy who helped to write Reform's 2024 health policy.

Laughable. Dangerous. Surreal.

And wildly out of step with mainstream public opinion.
More than 50 million Brits have had at least one Covid jab.

A Labour Prime Minister, re-elected in Norway, despite trailing in the polls for most of this term in office .
"This is a signal to outside Norway that Social Democracy can win, despite a right wing wave."

Richard Tice on the SEND system this week...
"Hijacked by parents who want free taxi transport for their children."

Outrageous.

Just a flavour of what a Reform government would really be like.

When I think of the St George's Cross, these are the people who come to mind.
Sporting heroes who unite and inspire.
The joy that Ben Stokes, Chloe Kelly, Mario Itoje and Jude Bellingham bring to people will last for years to come.
The odd painted roundabout will be forgotten by next month.

It's the nature of politics that some campaigns take longer than you'd like to be won...
The same is true for the campaign to get Liam Dawson back in the England Teat side!
The standout spinner in first class cricket for years.
Delighted for Liam.
Delighted for England.

I listen carefully to the Shadow Chancellor at the despatch box.
He has much to say about our government, but still hasn't come forward with a single costed policy proposal of his own.
I wish him well for the summer. Let's see if he comes back from Devon with any costed or credible policies...

In the end, listening is a virtue in politics - not a weakness.

I wish the changes had come much sooner, but this is a Bill that protects people on PIP and will see more than 10,000 people in Welwyn Hatfield recieve an uplift to their weekly Universal Credit payment.

My full letter is below.

Labour Hold in Hertfordshire 🗳

Politics is a team sport and I was delighted to spend a few hours in Stevenage for the Bedwell by-election yesterday.

A great result for my Hertfordshire neighbours, especially after Reform advances in the county division in May.

🏘️The Chancellor announced a record investment in social housing today.

I took the opportunity to raise the MTVH scheme to the east side of Welwyn Garden City station.

My hope is that the enhanced AHP funding will
help communties like mine unlock stalled sites and help get us building.

The only thing as predictable as a Nigel Farage photoshoot with a pint, is a Nigel Farage led party falling out and falling apart.

If you can't govern a team of 5MPs and some staff, what chance do you have of governing a country?
None.

Free school meals for 4,510 more children in Welwyn Hatfield.

This is our Labour Government at its best, investing in young people and easing the cost of living pressure on parents.

I've visited more than 20 of our local schools and seen first hand what a difference this will make.
