Also 5th February, Menjou is in A Gentleman of Paris (1927), as a suave boulevardier whose philandering ways finally catch up with him in this stylish and witty romantic farce. It’s an example of late silent-era sophistication. slapstick.org.uk/events/adolp... @slapstickfest.bsky.social 4/4

On 5th February Menjou is in The Front Page @slapstickfest.bsky.social as sharp-tongued editor Walter Burns in Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur’s landmark newsroom satire, a fast-talking comedy that laid the foundations for decades of screwball brilliance to come. slapstick.org.uk/events/adolp... 3/

On 4 February we see Menjou in the recently rediscovered, Are Parents People? (1925), a sophisticated comedy of manners brimming with wit, charm and emotional nuance. slapstick.org.uk/events/adolp... @slapstickfest.bsky.social 2/

Three fine panels in first day of Festival of Economics. An honest but optimistic account of where we are economically was followed by discussions on polarisation and then aid and defence.

Full houses too.

More tomorrow. Programme here: www.economicsobservatory.com/festival-of-...

Time and time again trail hunting is found to be a cover for cruelty. This fox must have been terrified and who knows how it was killed.

Labour promised to ban trail hunting but plans only to have a consultation. Just get on with it.
