I don't know if I can adequately express my glee at this exquisite wording. I hope Judge Reyes always has a green wave when she drives, a cool pillow at night, and the most comfortable chair.

Today is #WorldNTDDay, and we’re celebrating what’s possible when we work together. Neglected tropical diseases affect the world’s most vulnerable people and devastate a person’s health, livelihood, and dignity. Let’s rid the world of NTDs and the suffering they bring. bit.ly/3LR3EgK

Any news organization that quotes Bovino saying the victim intended to “massacre” agents and doesn’t say that is a damnable lie disproved by the videos is not a serious news organization.

The great gift of my work is getting to speak with people from all over the world and learning about how they make real differences in people's lives.

For this one, it's Lebanon and Syria.

CARNEY: “.. You cannot live within the lie of mutual benefit through integration when integration becomes the source of your subordination.” 🔥
Carney: "American hegemony in particular helped provide public goods, a stable financial system... this bargain no longer works. Let me be direct. We are in the midst of a rupture, not a transition... recently, great powers have begun using economic integration as a weapon. Tariffs as leverage ... "

Two ideas on hope that I crossed today.

First, E.B. White: "Hope is the thing that is left to us, in a bad time."

Second, from a book on exploitation in the DRC, "hope is like a hot coal — take hold, and it will scald you to the bone."

Unsure which one I hold closer. Both, likely, in a breath.

One thing better than setting achievable goals for the year in early January is the inevitable reconsideration and de-escalation of said goals halfway through the month.

Thank you @maxwellfrost.bsky.social this is the message we need right now.
Frost: People should know that them cutting your healthcare, them cutting nutritional assistance, SNAP benefits, all this stuff—they're cutting that from working people so they can give ICE money to go terrorize our communities.

A friend in Minneapolis just sent me this video. Looks like thousands have come together for a vigil after an ICE agent shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good. This was my neighborhood for several years before coming to Portland.

Saving money. Saving lives.

An honor to write about efforts to keep a global coalition of public health professionals on track to meet an essential goal.
Foreign aid cuts threatened trachoma treatment programs in Ethiopia and Mozambique, but emergency funding from The Carter Center kept $98 million worth of life-saving antibiotics from going to waste, preventing a public health disaster.
When Foreign Aid Disappeared, The Carter Center Stepped Up
Foreign aid cuts threatened trachoma treatments in Ethiopia and Mozambique, but The Carter Center provided $5 million in emergency funding to keep elimination efforts on track.

Read something today that said the Jan. 6 attack was successful, despite what we've said and thought in it's aftermath. It was hard to see the truth of that until this past year, especially this past week.

It's a law enforcement operation that also requires us running a sovereign nation and making lots of money on oil but it's not specifically a military action so no Congress approval needed. Makes total sense.

it's crazy that 500 years ago, you would see the ruler of your country maybe once in your life and hear whispers that they're the Sun God, but now with social media, you get to see on a daily basis that they're the most unhinged, idiotic, and unhappy person you know

Anyone with any knowledge of emerging politics, markets, and good sense knows this is, to use a technical term, fucking dumb.
AP: “.. Africa is the continent most affected by the removals, with ambassadors from 13 countries being removed: Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Mauritius, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia and Uganda.”
