As we record and close down our trenches in #GreenwichPark we are still finding some lovely #Roman #pottery including a stamped piece of #Samian (momo?) and some fine ware, possibly continental? #communityarchaeology #theroyalparks 👍🏻🏛️🌳❤️

But it has added valuable information to landscape setting of the #Roman 🏛️. On the last rise before #Blackheath and surrounded by old channels & springlines? So many more questions...that we'd love to answer during a 2026 season🙏🏻. For now here's a second #drone 📸 showing landscape to the south...

...in the main student trench, after heroic digging by @uclarchaeology.bsky.social we reached the bottom of a channel on s.side of the 🏛️ mound...beneath several episodes of 20th century landscaping. Our dream of a collapsed #Roman wall in the channel wasn't fulfilled at this point in the feature...

We've reached the end of 3 weeks of super #communityarchaeology at #GreenwichPark with #TheRoyalParks and @uclarchaeology.bsky.social 😥. It's been another super dig! In our main #volunteers trench we have identified a series of surfaces, postholes and robber trenches...still some recording to do 👍🏻✔️

Day 15, we have some lovely small finds from what we thought was a ditch, but could be something robbed out? Including the top of this little cosmetic bottle & a fragment of #amphora handle. Over next 2 days @uclarchaeology.bsky.social will aim to bottom the channel they are digging through 👍🏻❤️🌳🏛️
May 29, 2025 at 8:08 AM
We are also getting some lovely #burnishedware sherds from the ditch nearby, contemporary with the #posthole? And a super #tileprint... animal or human? #communityarchaeology #GreenwichPark #TheRoyalParks @uclarchaeology.bsky.social 🌳🏛️❤️👍🏻
May 28, 2025 at 6:49 AM
The #posthole mentioned above continues to be a source of fresh unabraded #pottery sherds on an abridged day 14 due to rain... giving time for some finds processing! This is a lovely little #samian sherd ❤️ #GreenwichPark #communityarchaeology 🏛️🌳
May 28, 2025 at 6:23 AM
Entering week 3 of our #communityarchaeology dig in #GreenwichPark and we have this lovely fresh sherd of #Roman burnished ware, expertly recovered from a posthole by one of the #volunteers 👇🏻👏🏻❤️👍🏻🏛️🌳

Day 10, lots of cogitation in Tr12... but what does it all mean? And is naming layers after volunteers a good idea?? 👍🏻🌳❤️😇
May 22, 2025 at 9:39 PM
In addition to the lead soldier and lead 🐪, we had a nice range of interesting #Roman #pottery from our latest trench in #GreenwichPark 🌳🏛️❤️👏🏻
