Sarah Wiatrek, our Plant Nursery Manager, has been experimenting with the mediums we use for propagating plants by cuttings. It's amazing to see the difference in root development on the rosemary stem cuttings! The first picture is from a mixture of vermiculite and pulverized glass sand. The pulverized glass sand was sourced hyper-locally from @overlookedmaterials, a glass recycling company located 3 miles from us. Check them out as an awesome option to reliably recycle your glass bottles! The second picture is the result of using a mixture of perlite and peat moss. We believe the vermiculite and glass resulted in robust roots because rosemary cuttings are sensitive to stem rot. Pots were also top-dressed with the pulverized glass grit from Overlooked Materials to prevent fungus gnat reproduction. Definitely exciting developments as we try to find applications for sustainable and locally sourced nursery supplies!Picture 1- Sarah with a sample pot of stem cuttingsPicture 2- Rooted Rosemary Stem Cuttings from 1/2 vermiculite, 1/2 glass sandPicture 3- Rooted Rosemary Stem Cuttings from 1/2 peat moss, 1/2 perlitePicture 4- Stem cuttings top dressed with glass gritPicture 5- Pulverized glass sand from Overlooked MaterialsPicture 6- Pulverized glass grit from Overlooked Materials

Solar panels are built to last for decades — but that same durability is what makes them so hard to recycle.

That’s why our AWS-2 laminated glass recycling system is designed to help separate glass from bonded layers and to improve material recovery.
