There are also similar tables on display at the Royal College of Physicians in London, which were also made in Padua in the seventeenth century.

The tables came to England in 1642 with John Evelyn. In the film a (fictional!) table shows the lymphatic system. I work with many 18thC preparations which use mercury to show lymphatics in dazzling silver - I love that the film may introduce more people to this oft-ignored anatomical structure!

It was planned at a time when Resurrectionists - or body snatchers - were rife. However, completion was planned for 1832, but delays meant that it was only ready for use in January 1833. By this time the 1832 Anatomy Act had passed which would largely put the body snatchers out of business.
