A second cat shelter has been successfully crowdfunded and is on its way here! HUGE THANK YOU to the folks who made this happen! Y'all are awesome!

And from the looks of our Animal Care needs list, we've got some pet blankets on the way too, which I'll be putting in the shelters as bedding. Yay!
The first picture I took of our newest stray Treacle the Small Calico Cat. She's a mostly black calico with a dark patch of orange over her left eye and a thin orange stripe on her nose. Her feet are white, looking like shoes. Here she is as I first met her, having just jumped out of one of the mobile park's dumpsters. Her whiskers are cut short here, but don't worry, they have mostly grown back in since. She's extremely friendly, often running out to meow at me constantly for attention while I'm out walking the dogs. Miss Fluff the Fluffy Orange Stray sleeping huddled up against a tree stump in our side yard. Stray cats Bitsy, Pinky, Dagger, and Tabitha huddled up together in the makeshift shelter I put together for them, constructed of a canvas tarp wrapped around a coffee table and set out on our front porch. Their eyes glow green from the flash of the camera. Hopefully the new pre-built shelters will keep them warmer and safer and more comfortable than this. The first shelter we were donated, set up on the front porch. It has grey panels, white trimming, and an asphalt-covered roof and canopy. The door has a plastic strip curtain and there is an emergency hatch in one side in case a cat in the back of the shelter can't get out the front. Stray cats Dagger and Seamus are laying on top of the roof while Pinky and Bitsy mill about on the porch in front of the shelter.

Today's breakfast is bread pudding my partner made last night using a couple of stale donuts and some Hawaiian bread. Taaaasty!

Today's breakfast isn't anything too special, just a turkey sammich and a PB&J. Though I could mention that the mayo was donated to us from our food needs list, just as the kitchen island I prepared this feast upon was from the house improvement list.

So far the cats are mostly using their new shelter as a perch and roof-bed, but I'm absolutely sure they'll be more about the inside when the weather starts turning again.

Big #MutualAidPackage for the stray cats today, an insulated cat shelter! And well in time before the real cold and snow hits, thank goodness. Will probably put a fleece blanket inside it for bedding, but overall it seems like it'll keep the kitties safe and warm this winter!

A package leaning up against the front door frame of the house. Several of the strays are there to check the package out and/or try to sneak inside. In the background on the porch is the strays' makeshift shelter, a canvas tarp wrapped around a coffee table. Decent enough but not terribly well insulated or very sturdy. The various panels and other parts of the shelter, taken out of the box and leaned up against our kitchen counter. The instruction manual has been propped up between two of the panels. A front shot of the shelter, fully constructed. It is grey wood with white trim and a black asphalt roof. The doorway has strips of plastic hanging down to keep the wind out and a small asphalt canopy to provide further weather protection for cats going in or out. Tiny Tina the Grey Tortoiseshell Cat is sniffing around the side of the shelter, specifically where (not visible from this angle) the emergency escape hatch is located. If a cat gets stuck behind a bunch of other cats in the shelter, the hatch gives them an extra exit to get out. Top view of the shelter. The roof has been lifted up on its hinges, providing easy access to the shelter's interior. An attached metal arm holds the roof up while Tina takes a peek down at the inside. The interior is bare, just gray wooden walls and floor, but those walls have insulated cores to make sure the kitties inside will stay toasty during the winter.
