Ordered a copy of the brochure from a 2005 Bogardy exhibit in North Carolina (co-curated by former NGA film programmer Peggy Parsons—anyone I know in contact with her?) and the way they wrapped it is fantastic

Bogardy was a regular Capitol Hill presence until his death at n 1992, frequenting St. Peter’s on the Hill and the Chesapeake Bagel shop. Any of my old Hill/LOC peeps remember him?

Ironically harder to hear as an album than Made in USA. All I hear are pieces from the perfectly-sequenced Bossa Nova 2001 with singles and bits of Overdose mixed in. I do appreciate the English-language “Happy Sad,” and this music will always remind of the year my mother died.

30 years ago, I’d reach for the visionary Bossa Nova 2001 or Overdose before either of the Matador comps that broke them stateside. But tonight, this hits me as a solid greatest-early hits.

I used to see Andrew White, who lived in Brookland, on the Metro, so I was sorry I didn’t buy his self-published autobiography while he was alive. So I was happy to find it on eBay for all of $11.27

What if you were immersed in the fevered basement brains of two beer-swilling potheads you don’t have anything in common with, whose every aesthetic choice is terrible, but you find them utterly endearing? Incompetent and inarticulate, but strangely compelling.
