It was due, they couldn't call Switch 2 a console incompatible with the previous one.
Now, people expect its positioning on the market to not change, so the same 299 price tag. That's necessary to maintain its leadership over Sony, Microsoft and Steam. Nintendo is for all (enthusiasts and casuals).

They better make it all right, it doesn't take much to lose the crown. Nintendo today is leader, because of it's aggressive pricing and good quality (except for the defective Joy-Con), it must stay that way. It must not end like with Deck and its clones.
