Prof. for Land Atmosphere Interactions @Leipzig University. Nerd, born 350ppm, still believing another world is possible. 🌈Powered by #AuDHD, glitches can happen 🧠🌶️ Opinions my own.
Yesterday we celebrated the PhD defense of @xinyu66.bsky.social at the Universität Innsbruck 🎓🎉

It was such a pleasure to watch Xin discuss with the evaluators Nadine Ruehr and Georg Wohlfahrt, showing his passion, curiosity and in-depth knowledge on the topic.

Congrats Dr. Yu!!!

And if you are into the #CarbonCycle you can continue the #EGU25 monday afternoon 14:00-15:45 with our session on vegetation dynamics and carbon stocks w/ talks by
Viola Heinrich on post-disturbance C emissions in the tropics
@scaldararu.bsky.social on modelling plant responses to global change
April 28, 2025 at 5:31 AM
My #EGU25 starts w/ a session on global budgets and drivers of greenhouse gases with solicited talks by
@jens-d-mueller.bsky.social on the ocean sink under record high SST in 2023/4
Santiago Botía on what it meant for the drought in South America and land sink in the Amazon, Cerrado and Caatinga

Same. Yesterday in my last lecture of the semester, we discussed the importance of defending science and knowledge against the rising threats globally. CO2 will keep rising if we don't do anything about it, and it will keep warming the planet. With or without a website. It's just plain physics...

The positive trend is also partly due to the statistical lever effect of few outliers in the CO2 growth rate time-series when applying running trends.
Summary:⚠️caution is needed when interpreting such trends!
September 28, 2024 at 8:43 AM
Rather, they tend to be associated with multidecadal periods with more strong El-Niño events and fewer strong La-Niña events than the periods decades, as was the case of the 1980s and 1990s. These result higher variance in CO2 growth rate as C-cycle impacts are not symmetrical.
