It gave humans a waist because we don't need a huge gut to digest lots of plant matter. Cooking also kills pathogens. Half your immune system is in your gut. But we have fewer parasites to fend off because we cook all our food. That freed up calories for our calorie-hungry brains.

The lack of the cranial ridge means we have much weaker jaw muscles for chewing. But it also allowed our brainpan to grow significantly larger than other great apes. Cooking food softens it allowing us to still get enough nutrition without breaking all our teeth.

Third, human use of fire (probably starting with Homo Habilus) coincided with a massive reduction in jaw size, dentation, and the loss of the cranial ridge in hominins. We also lost the self-sharpeninh canines of other great apes.
