My favorite example of timeline handwaving is in The Voyage Home ("The One with the Whales" as we called it) when Bones breezes through a 1980s hospital casually handing out cures for terminal conditions

Her bio of Jane Franklin describes a pregnancy as "her belly had swelled, and burst" and I think about this roughly once a month

Frey used to think he was heading for national office. If nothing else I hope yesterday's results and vibes crush that dream for him. (I'd also like for him to lose the mayoral race, but if he doesn't I want him to know he and his career are stuck with us, a city that mostly holds him in contempt.)

I can't say I have my finger on the pulse of the masses, but the vibes in my circles are split pretty evenly between "ugh probably gonna be Frey again" and "no listen he CAN be beaten"

It might seem like I've divulged a lot of spoilers in the screencaps but I've barely scratched the surface of what happens in this book!

See for yourself!

I finished editing this book almost exactly a year ago, wondering what kind of reality it would be born into today. Wondering if it'd feel quaint, dated. Turns out the only thing about it that's aged poorly is that it depicts the NYT as doing real reporting lol.

Main problem with this format is you can accidentally post on a Wednesday and go about sixteen hours without clocking it, but that feels about right for 2025
