Arlise must be sick of snow after all the winter missions she’s endured as a Watcher, so she’d prefer the beach. Especially since, for her, the beach means time with her beloved Earc.

Earc would give Arlise stuff he whittled for her himself. In fact, he does this in “Seven Tears on the Tide”
Arlise…I don’t think she’s great with gifts, but she’d probably get him a set of steel knives, since the selkies don’t have metal tools.

Free Friday: It’s been a fantastic week, crowned by the standalone rerelease of “The Skull in the Tree”
This novelette is one of my favorite of my own stories, so I’m so happy to share it with the world in the form it deserves!

Charles R. Saunders! I’d heard wonderful things about Imaro but wasn’t able to get my hands on a copy until the Gollancz reprint earlier this year.
It’s a shame he never really received the recognition he deserved in his own lifetime😔

Arlise prefers night, since it’s one of the few times she has peace and quiet while out on the road as a Watcher.

I’m fond of Elder Scrolls elves. They’re not mere “humans with pointy ears”. The mer are as diverse as humans are, they’ve got deep and intriguing lore, and a lot of stuff about them is downright WEIRD.

Overall, this year was pretty good, but a wisdom tooth I’d been assured wouldn’t be an issue deciding to MAKE itself an issue definitely marked a low point for me. It really derailed my September and October!
At least they’re all gone now😅

My best comps for “Seven Tears on the Tide” are Paladin’s Strength and Of Deeds Most Valiant, but I need to find more👀
More paladin fantasy adventure romances, please!

Lots of heraldry in southern Anura. House Dun, which Arlise was born into and heir of, has a hawk in scarlet and ash. My brother did an awesome job bringing theirs to life based on an old sketch

Favorite Holiday Songs: Let’s see…
-We Three Kings👑
-Hark, the Herald Angels Sing😇
-Let it Snow🌨️
-Jingle Bell Rock🔔
…and, finally, Auld Lang Syne. Overshadowed by all the Christmas songs, but excellent in its own right!

You might not think it at first, but Arlise is actually an excellent dancer. A lot of the footwork and poise required for swordsmanship carries over onto the dance floor. She just hasn’t had a lot of opportunities to show off those skills as a Watcher.

I’d like to finish off Imaro by the end of the year and start The Quest for Cush, but we’ll see. That’s a fair bit to read in a few weeks with work and holidays😅

Aside from being a scholar, thief, and treasure hunter, Tanis of Byrsa from “He Who Sows” is also pan. As she would say, she’s fond of wine and cares little about the vessel or label.

“Seven Tears on the Tide” starts in autumn and continues into winter, with the seasonal shift having some plot relevance as the start of autumn storm season prevents any outside rescue for Arlise and her marooned comrades.

Free Friday:
Happy Birthday to me🎂
This week, I tried my hand at sketching a cover concept for “He Who Sows”, and it actually turned out pretty good for me being a total novice! Maybe I should take up drawing🤔

Arlise Dun knows the horror of maledictions bound in blood. Even better, she knows how to break them. But if she's to save an innocent mother-to-be, she may have to endanger her own infant daughter...
Out on Dec. 19th!

“Seven Tears on the Tide” features Menodora, which commemorates the sacrificial execution of the Prophetess Elissa with vows of silence from sunrise to sunset and feasting after dark.
This month, I’m hoping to create more Elissene holidays.

Hey all! I’m an author of fantasy, sci-fi, romance, and more, and this month, I’ll be working on:
-Finishing “The Throne of Ptalis”
-Outlining stories for the collection
-Launching the standalone edition of “The Skull in the Tree”

Skipping to the Monthly Wrap-Up:
November was really eventful! I finished “Dusk and Dawn at Laufenden” at last, found a publisher for “The Goatskin Codex”, and launched “The Gale at Quiet Cove”. Maybe my best month of 2025?

Draconets! Little cat-sized dragons seemed like a fun idea, so I threw them into “He Who Sows” as sacred beasts of Yarhib, the Tyrian sky god.
Unlike true dragons, draconets live in flocks and lack elemental breath.

A few things from the two decades before “Seven Tears on the Tide”:
-End of Rauch’s Rebellion
-The entire Livonan War
-A coup and civic disorder in Riso
-Advances in metallurgy, printing, and optics

Free Friday: I didn’t do a lot of writing related stuff this week, but I did release the new standalone edition of “The Gale at Quiet Cove” today!
