I’m from the constituency next to Ed’s and he is such a Type of Guy I know about 30 of, it’s genuinely disorienting that he’s a highly effective political operator.
He has a place and that place is the PTA summer fair, he just *shouldn’t be* in the corridors of power

I think IHT is at least partly because if you’re on PAYE tax doesn’t usually feel like the government comes for things you already have and takes them. You never get them.

Much as with assisted dying I’m actually less convinced the law is a good idea (six months is fine) than I am that the lords absolutely has no right to make that decision

If you write them off but the higher tax rate doesn’t expire after 30 years you can look incredibly generous while taking more money off us, don’t see a downside tbh

Well also the spending is infrastructure spending (fine but no one’s going to notice that now and probably in this parliament) and until yesterday they were very hostile to welfarism which is what people think left wing economics is

That’s nothing, in 2015 the Irish courts ruled that the Misuse of Drugs Act wasn’t drafted properly, struck it out and legalised ecstasy, ketamine and crystal meth until they sorted it out

I mean it’s still half as expensive as fuel tax. If people don’t switch bc of perceived cost, they are perceiving the cost incorrectly. And what do you mean unworkable, if we ban new ICE cars they’re banned.

Also it’s less urgent than net zero but we actually hound be encouraging people to use public transport rather than drive even if it’s EVs
